Common misspelling; I manually fixed the around posts with this typo myself, but since this is apparently a somewhat common typo I feel it would be good to make it alias to the actual spelling, like how aligator is aliased to alligator , to prevent any future mistakes. Updated by auto moderator 4 months ago. Looking at the aliases, 'raccoon dog' seems to be for the genus Nyctereutes, while 'tanuki' is for the species. There's only one living species in the genus, but several extinct ones.
